Rewarding Hard Work

Dr. Rieger was pleased to share how a student's hard work at an extracurricular class earned him a new Chromebook!

The Program

During the "Shout Outs" at our last Monday Morning Assembly, Dr. Rieger recognized 7th grader Henry D. for his participation in a Big Shoulders Fund coding program last spring. The class taught Henry an overview of coding, with specific instruction on website design that included an introduction to HTML.

The Requirements

The program demanded attendance and completion of assigned tasks. When Henry and his parents signed up to participate, they took on those responsibilities. This is a great example of following through on commitments.

The Reward

Henry attended the mandatory classes, participated in the coding activities, and completed the assignments. The Big Shoulders Fund awarded him a new Chromebook to recognize his commitment to the program. Henry was able to share some thoughts about the class, and it was clear that he enjoyed himself and the coding.

It is great that Henry earned himself a new computer. And Dr. Rieger pointed out that he is building a skillset for high school, and beyond. Acknowledging Henry in front of the student body set a positive example for the other students. Such an exciting accomplishment for our school to celebrate!

St. Viator Elementary School is working to increase the afterschool extracurricular activities that we offer to students. We will share the information about future Big Shoulders Fund classes, and about other programs, as they come across our desks. Reach out to the Main Office if you have a suggestion, or information, about an elementary school-appropriate extracurricular. Also feel free to reach out if you have any questions about St. Viator Elementary School, or our after school activities: (733) 545-2173.
